Media and Objectivity
I feel objectivity most defiantly still occurs in media's coverage of politics. It's sad to say but Fox News is defiantly pro-republican and it's very obvious. I think all stations though are pro something. I would absolutely love a news station that reported news weather it was good or bad for the republicans or democrats. Just honest raw news. What you need to know, not what you want to hear.
I don't listen to talk radio. I get so annoyed when it comes on. It's just a personal preference. It annoys me to no end! The prefer to see the person who is speaking weather it be on TV or in person. So I supposed it doesn't really affect my views, because I avoid it at all costs.
Of course media objectivity is important! I want to hear the facts not someone's opinion! I think this is very hard to achieve however. Almost everyone has an opinion and is in some way going to be biased. I do think it is so important to hear the facts though. I think you needs facts first! Then it's always good to get an opinion from both sides of the spectrum. I've you've never been in a situation you may not understand it. Other people's thoughts and opinions can sometimes help educate you also.

ReplyDeleteMy personal thought is that objectivity depends on who is watching the show. You are so right, everyone is pro something. Maybe it's us who is not viewing it objectively. I too find talk radio annoying, but I have found myself curious at time as well to see who will willingly show their ignorance. Sometimes I wish that we could get an accurate honest news report from someone who knows nothing about our current events. They wouldn't have an opinion just truth.
ReplyDeleteI think that objectivity is hard to find in political coverage today. I agree that all stations show some bias, and because of that I think that the news reporters give their personal opinions and thoughts. I also think that in today's society people are easily persuaded by the news coverage and when reporters are bias towards something the people just go with it. I've never listened to talk radio, but if I turn on the radio, it's to jam out to my music not to listen to politics. It would probably annoy me too.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any true objectivity in the news media today, or ever for that matter. It would be nice if it was but it isn't. Fox news is definitely one of the most biased. I wonder sometimes if it is because there are so many liberal news channels out there that they have to push even harder to be more conservative. If that's the case then they should get rid of their slogan,"Fair and balanced." I used to watch Fox all the time but between the out right lies and the arguing I had to quite watching them. Talk radio can be just as bad at times. I like talk radio but there are a lot that like to yell over the callers that disagree with them and I have to just change the station. It is one thing to be passionate about your beliefs but another to yell at another for voicing their opinion.
ReplyDeleteI only watch Fox news when Bill O'Riley is on. That is when I actually sit down long enough to watch TV. I don't care for the other news on Fox news. I don't agree with Fox news taking Glen Beck off the show. And I do not like all the arguing going on when Fox news has people on to interview them and then put them on the spot. It's hard to follow the people they have on the news channels when they interview and only give them a few seconds to respond. I think it's hard to find just "raw" news on TV.
