1. Which political party do you most identify with? Why? Are there things in the party platform with which you disagree?
I suppose I identify with both parties. I identify with the Republican party the most. Mainly because I believe with there stance on on social and human ideas which individual rights and justice. I believe it is individual responsibility to take care of oneself. I agree with the death penalty and increased spending on military issues. If I had to disagree with anything it have to be the opposition of gay marriage. However I don't find this to be of that much importance, as it doesn't effect me.
2. Does America need political parties? The founders originally hoped that American politics would operate without need of parties? Would that work today? Why?
I think in some ways America would would be much better without political parties. I think to many people get wrapped up in the parties and not the actual politics. They vote for someone because they are republican or democrat rather than what the person stands for. I think people have become to dependent upon these parties and our system wouldn't operate well without them.
3. Please research lesser known political parties - which one do you most identify with? Why?
I came across the America First Party, which promotes economic growth and independence. I identify with this party because I feel economic growth is so important right now. It also encourages the traditional values of faith, family, and responsibility. I think that is wonderful.
I see you are not associated with either the Democratic Or Republican parties. I felt the same way as you do now. I flip flopped between the two until I found a party that I completely agree with. My question to you is, if you do find a party that you completely agree with would you vote for that party candidate in the future or would you only vote for a Democratic or Republican candidate?
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way as you do about gay marriage. I am not sure why the parties continue to have this as a platform issue. This is primarily an issue that is dealt with from state to state. Plus it causes a lot of controversy and turns away a lot of young voters. It just makes Republicans look close minded.
I have to agree, sometimes I also think that our country would be much better off without these political parties and the controversy that goes on between them. I believe that there are people out there who go to the voting booth without any idea of who they're voting for and simply vote on who is the republican candidate or who is the democratic candidate. Both parties do have ideas that could help our country, but they just spend too much time arguing with each other rather than getting things done.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to fully agree with one party or another because they can be so far apart from each other on ideas. I typically agree with Conservatives for your same reason; and that is people should be responsible for themselves. Our country has crippled much of its society by providing so many welfare program. We should always be promoting people to keep bettering themselves. But you are right, politics have become so consumed around the two major parties that many people focus more on them then the actual ideas and values they represent.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am registered as an Independent, I identify with both parties as well. At different times according to different issues, I always feel free to vote for whoever in whichever agenda I feel pertains more to me. I think America would be better off without parties as well, if we could manage without them. And the American Party which promotes economic growth and independence are important issues along with faith, family and responsibilities for Americans to relate to.
ReplyDeleteI do not particularly identify with either, but If I had to choose I would have to choose the Democratic party. This reason being because to me it feels like they try to help people unlike the Republicans. To me it seems like the only thing they care about is money. But that is just me.. Everybody has their own opinions. And this is most definitely why I am not a political person at all. I could care less either way. My family is Democrats and that is another reason why I chose them. I also think in some ways that the world would be better off without these political parties too. But we have used these for years and years now so everybody is used to these parties. But to me I feel like parties are just full of drama.. Like I said I am not political at all...
ReplyDeleteI commented on Caleb Baird, Stephanie Jeffers, and seancp08
ReplyDeleteI also identify with the reepublican party the most. I like there stance on education, and many other aspects. my biggest issues it there stance on gay rights and marriage. I think that political parties to play a very pivitol role in our politics because they are a way to inform and educate on the platforms that our candidates represent.
