Public Opinion

I feel that its the news job to put these polls out there. Do I think they are all necessary, no. I still believe however it is appropriate to report on these polls. It is important for Americans and our leaders to see which was the country is feeling about certain topics.

I come from a long line of Republicans. I however am more open minded than my grandparents and my parents. I think that it is important to be a part of a party that shares the same interests as you. The problem with me being I'm still learning. I entered the work force two years ago and since that time my views have changed immensely on a number of topics. Two years ago things that sounded wonderful to me are absolutely ridiculous to me now. As I'm getting older and having more life experiences were the government decisions effect me first hand I can see my self following in my families republican foot steps. The majority of my friends are older and things like this are very important to them, the younger ones however don't put much thought into anything besides there wants right now. My grandparents and parents political party identification is very important to them. Our government shapes our lives and can change it dramatically, I believe this is why it is of such importance to them to stand behind their party and their beliefs.

My opinion of politics is most defiantly influenced more by economic issues. As I said previously before I entered the work force I hadn't realized the importance but now I most defiantly do. I think it is so important to me because I see more and more people going for things like handouts when the don't get out there and try to make it. It burns me up, we all need help now and then but to many people just live off the government. It gets old working 60+ hours a week and going to school time trying to make something of myself and struggling and seeing people on welfare who don't have a care in the world and are spending my hard earned money without making an effort to do anything with themselves. End of rant. This is why it is most important to me however.

  1. I absolutely agree with your post! As we gain more responsibilities in life, we gain a greater interest in what is going on politically because we realize that we are directly affected by every bill or piece of legislator that is being passed or denied. As some sociologist attempt to connect our political opinion on social influences like race or gender, our greatest influence is in economics. As Americans, we are always planning for the future. We grow up, go to college, get married, have children, and retire. We are expected to work hard if we want to succeed and to have our basic needs met. But now days more and more people choose not do this. Rather they choose to not work, and live off the government. ( I guarantee everyone in this class knows at least one person who does this). Unemployment numbers are constantly being reported. Although, this poll is continuously altered to be read the way that is going to support that political party the best. Every poll seems to have fine print with it, and whereas the media should be responsible for exposing that fine print, they seem to be aiding in keeping it hidden. The American people must stay informed or we face corruption. I don't think political parties are as important as the public being and staying informed.

  3. I agree that polls are important and can help the public but I think the way that polls are conducted is often misleading. This is especially the case if the news media reporting these polls are the same people taking the survey. These polls are all too often misleading, biased, and inaccurate. All major news stations are guilty of bias and misleading stories. Even the so called "fair and balance" Fox news. I used to watch them a lot and then caught their reporters in some very blatant lies and I quite watching them. If reporters are willing to flat out lie just to create a story then they could just as easily manipulate a poll for their own agenda.

  4. Our leaders needing to know these polls is a good reason for having so many. In the last election I voted with my parents but next time I am going to watch some of the debates and vote for my self but I think I will probably vote like my parents anyway. Last election I talked with my parents about the debates but I did not watch any of them my self. I agree with you that the older you are the more politics means. My grandmother is way more political then my parents. I agree with you one hundred and five percent on what you said about people being on welfare. I believe half of them do not even try before getting help too. I also work full time sometimes more and I go to school full time and I am a single mom of a four year old little boy so it frustrates me when I am making it all by my self.
